PROMUSICAE organised a conference on new business models in the digital environment
YouTube, Yes.fm and Nokia presented to PROMUSICAE members their last services for digital music distribution.

PROMUSICAE organised on Thursday 25th September, 2008 a conference on new business models in the digital environment, with the aim of bringing nearer to their members the last services for digital music distribution launched in Spain. The conference counted on the participation of YouTube, Yes.fm and Nokia representatives, who introduced their respective platforms and informed the attendants on the possibilities offered by these new digital tools for both generating income from sales and/or diffusion and to be used as marketing tools.

Maria Ferreras, YouTube’s Strategic Alliances manager, highlighted the high value of music in this video exchage platform and the opportunity it offers for music producers to monetize the contents generated by them or hosted by any other user. YouTube has developed the necessary technology to avoid infringement of intellectual property rights, allowing associated entities to create a reference database which informs about the non authorized use of both video and audio. When a content that matches the reference database is found, the system offers three options: accept it and obtain money, remove it or track it.

On the other hand, María Ferreras also highlighted the use of the platform as a marketing tool, (artists’ promotion, interactivity with users, etc.). YouTube allows the professionals to design their own channels look & feel, to link videos with a shopping website, to place links to the company’s website, tickets sales for concerts, contests, etc.

Yes.fm content managers, Kiko Fuentes and Jean-Luc Marchand, presented another business model, in this case based on advertising and subscription services. The newly created www.yes.fm.es is an interactive radio that, by establishing legal agreements with the right owners of the music repertoires’ they offer, allows users free access to an enormous music library fitted with a powerful search engine, creation of personalized playlists, access to music-related information and to their users’ social network. Regarding their subscription service, users of www.yes.fm.es access without limit to all website contents. Yes.fm also stresses on the repertoire produced in Spain. The most interesting aspect of this service for phonographic producers is that, besides obtaining benefits from the listening of their products through this platform, they can use it as a promotion tool.

Finally, Nokia presented in debut to PROMUSICAE members its Nokia Music Store, that was to be launched in Spain the following day. Nokia representatives, Francisco Montalvo (Head of Sales Unit GTM NOKIA SPAIN) and Sonia Sánchez-Gómez (Music Market Manager Iberia), highlighted their company’s long relationship with music, which has come out into specific sound terminals and the creation of an online store service which is available in Spain since September 26th . The platform is also open to the music producers’ proposals (exclusive promotions of music content, of music events, etc.).
